My thoughts exactly, I don't own the 650 model but I haven't heard/read of any issues that would warrant what seems to me like a 2.0 version of this blower.
Has anyone actually had good success selling the batteries so that you're paying less for just the tool?
Got the hedge trimmer with battery that was front page last month, but its an extra 2.5ah battery I don't need. Tried selling for $90 locally in Seattle, but no luck. Would've been cheaper to just buy the tool itself for $87 and less hassle.

I'm the opposite. I want the 5ah but would like to sell the tool lol

I take negative Amazon reviews with a grain of salt.
A lot of negative Amazon reviews are posted by some really dumb people. I saw a review by a woman complaining about her six cartons of spoiled coconut milk. Her video shows it has bits floating in it. I purchased the same product and received it yesterday. The bits in the milk are bits of coconut.
Five years ago they had them for $100 with battery. It was like a one day sale. HD doesn't really have sales like that anymore.
Was it the same battery? I've seen it lower with the smaller battery.
