when I bought this in June it was $79.99 - did they really raise the price $10?

They raised prices on a TON of sets. Some bigger sets went up by $50 which is insane.

Hogwarts Castle is the winner for biggest price increase $70.

Yes, Lego announced the price increase a few months ahead of time and people had a chance to buy items before the Aug 1 date -- however, some sets like this were rarely in-stock and so it was difficult or impossible to order then. (But yes, I got one of these too at the last Amazon availability about 2 months ago, for $79.99).
I'd still recommend it to someone wanting it. This is now the new MSRP -- I think it's unlikely you will find this on sale or on a clearance unless you are very lucky. It's likely to remain a niche set for fans who even know what it is -- probably not the majority of Lego shoppers.

I ordered Hogwarts Castle, Disney Castle, Home Alone, Typewriter, Boutique Hotel, Nijango City, Nintendo and R2-D2 at 11.30 pm on July 31st. Lego updated the price 30 min later.

Agreed, very niche. I am a casual Lego fan who also adores the Horizon games. It's a great set that I enjoyed building, and I'm sure I would have paid even $99.99 for it.

Purchased Hogwart Icons, Home Alone, and R2-D2 shortly before the price increase myself.

And LEGO got almost $2000 of your money, if I added it right, so, you're both happy!

EDIT: crap, I forgot to get Home Alone!

randomly checked the next day and could order one, target didn't even notify me!

I could kick myself for not getting it before they raised the prices.

I honestly think this one is still cool for the extra $10. I don't know if you will ever catch them on sale or clearance since they sold out pretty quick I believe the first time around.
