I bought a Bluetooth OBD2 reader and between it and free or < $10 apps it's met all my DIY needs.

This day and age I'm baffled that these diagnostics aren't just available via a menu option in the car dash itself. Auto industry seems a too guarded and needs some transparency there.

I'm sure built in options would be convenient for garages too.

You know the majority of people are stupid... right? Some people can barely drive their cars... I couldn't imagine giving them access to vital systems info.

I've already got the Launch CRE200 Android based OBD2 scanner. Does this one do anything that that one doesn't already do?

I swear, Launch needs a chart or something for their 1000 different models.

Probably not worth the extra cost to the manufacturer. Some cars came with toolkits but they are rarely used unless it's an emergency. Mechanics will want to use their tried and true tools with extra features and regular folk will go to a mechanic for diagnosis/fix since they don't know what Error Code ID10T means. The enthusiast is a small niche.

I hear ya, but I'm tired of companies trying tie everything to a service you pay more for. I bought the damn thing, I should be able to look under the hood with a reasonable level of ease. I think auto engineers are playing jokes on us and the poor service techs. Anything more than an oil change is like a f-ing tavern puzzle let alone easy access.

I'm a software dev. Honestly it's not that hard to add a screen with some printouts and expose the info. They could hide the screen nicely behind a deeper menu called "Press here if you're NOT stupid!" For greater ease of use to the average moron.

I also get that garage techs want their familiar tool. I guess I'm being a bit pie in the Sky.

Most ELM27 based BT modules will not do things for airbag systems, purge mode for ABS systems (because they couldn't just build that in for when you *gasp* change your own brakes and flush the fluid) , or some of the transmission update / reset functions in new stuff.

Ive got a few, but wouldn't mind one of these in addition to the BT and USB options I have now that have their own uses. Not buying this one... especially since the code doesn't work.
