I am a member of the program and it is not bad. We have like 3 or 4 days in the summer where they turn your AC up for about 3 hours. They pre-cool the house, and you are able to override it if you want to. All in all, I am satisfied with the program.

I have not merged my nest with google yet and haven't updated it in years. The second some entity tries to change MY thermostat, it's going in the trash or I'm sending them an invoice so they can help pay for my bills. If they want a say in my habits then they can pony up... until then, they'd better keep their paws off of my stuff.

They do pony up. I think its like a $75 gift card each year you participate in the program, plus the free thermostat. And every single time they had a weather event, I had the ability to manually adjust the temp back if necessary.
