Solid deal. This is the lowest $/TB I've seen on these 6TB drives in a long time.

Should I hold out for Black Friday? I'm not in a rush, but it's if it's a good deal, I can bite for my NAS.

I feel kind of stupid posting this and I don't know if this would help anyone out but.. after much to my (pleasant) shock and surprise the nicest amazon rep in the world let me keep the 2TB (Red Plus) version of this that was mailed to me in error for free, I ended up using it for it's non-intended purpose.... as a regular data storage drive in my desktop (text documents, pictures, videos and so forth) and it works great ! Smilie .. probably not the best option to install programs on but in this day and age you'd probably be using some sort of ssd drive for programs especially given how cheap ssd drives are nowadays.

Normally this is used more for specifically for storage back up type applications is my understanding - did a lot of research online and found one very annoyed western digital employee engineer type guy posting on WD's forum who basically said " for the thousandth time for anyone asking YES you can use it as a "normal" data drive in a desktop not just for it's intended storage backup type stuff " ... he was a lot more technical as far as what he said but I got the gist of it, okay for desktop PC's to store your files on if you want to go that route Smilie .. on top of which given that WD publicly got into trouble with not making it clear which Red Plus drives were SMR and which were CRM and apparently ticked off a LOT of people WD is apparently eager to sell off their Red brand drives, even the Red Plus CRM versions which apparently are supposed to be better.

I may end up starting a raging debate here as to why SMR drives are just fine or not Stick Out Tongue , I'm just quoting stuff I found online.. I'm sure there are wiser heads than me on this forum who can shed more light on all the stuff I just mentioned Smilie ..

nope not quite, Red Plus are all CMR. issue was RED drives were all CMR until 4-6 TB SMRs drives started appearing... so the Plus was added to highlight CMR (which wasn't needed until they made SMR REDs).

WD Red were always fine for desktop use, just better spec'ed for vibration and heat in an enclosure and 24/7 use. So there's nothing unintended in your use case.
