Not a fan of Netgear. Asus have the most reliable routers.
BTW I posted this deal yesterday: https://slickdeals.net/f/16055851

i had a few netgear product throughout my life and they all failed randomly on me and then i thought i would give asus a try, Asus feel super hollow and light i had my doubt if its just an empty box but omg it just trouble free for 2+ years
only thing i miss about netgear is their aesthetics

(Oh, and let's not forget Netgear deciding to remove several features in their firmware to make room for their subscription upsell Circle security software. Didn't do anything about reliability, mind, but they'd still really like you to subscribe.)
Went to a fancy-pants Asus WiFi6 router last year, and haven't looked back AT ALL. Shortly after, got a secondary router to use with their AiMesh system for covering a WiFi weak spot, and it's been aces. Everything's been rock-solid this entire time. Can't recommend 'em enough.
(Actually, one down side - the advertised Time Machine/Time Capsule capability for Mac users really doesn't work reliably at all - I had to get a separate solution for that. Meh.)

The deco S4 model. Only wifi 5, however, they were on sale at the time and for what they wanted/need and the price, these are perfect.

Couldn't agree more, Netgear's would die and this first gen Asus AC router, while expensive at the time, won't quit.
I ended up purchasing the Arris surfboard pro max from Walmart a couple years ago on clearance and although it's all app based it's been rock solid and reliable. Haven't had an issue and get consistent speeds
Same here. I am actually thinking about buying three more at this price point and leave it in the room closest to the backyard/front yard where reception gets spotty.
