It's interesting power configuration in the back. 2x 120V plugs for 2400W, then you need 2 separate circuits to power it. Definitely need electrician to run another circuit to your home theater for the 2nd circuit.

Just don't expect "better" sounding audio from this if your currently using a decent avr from Denon/Onkyo/Yamaha/etc with no issues.

An answer from the Q&A- thought it was interesting.

Based on testing, at full power from all 8 channels into 8ohms the amp draws ~23 Amps total from the 120VAC wall. To get to the 4ohm spec we claim, 400W, on all 8 channels we need to double that current, ~46Amps. One 20A/16A rated inlet would not handle that current. Also based on the Hypex datasheet, the NC502MP power consumption at full power is 1.2kW per module. With 4 modules in the chassis, we would need a connector to handle 4.8kW. At 120VAC line voltage, that would need to handle 40Amps.

I have wondered the same. But then why would extremely educated and experienced music and theater lovers plunk down 5 times the cost of an integrated AVR to purchase separates like this? If it doesnt sound better then what is the purpose? Loudness? Any volume over 80dB for more than 20 minutes will likely lead to hearing damage...

You would only need another circuit if you plan on running all 8 channels at 200w at the same time. It'll never happen. A single 20 amp circuit will work fine.

It depends on the speakers and their load, speaker configuration ( atmos), room size etc. I would generally go with receiver with all latest bells and whistles ( latest hdmi) and as needed add additional amp for the front and center speakers. Receivers become obsolete every few years whereas external amplifiers and speakers have more life-time. Well, My previous Anthem receiver is sitting in my storage.

Do most people need a separate amp? Of course not. However, an amp will realistically last you a decade or more. As VenkatY notes, many people switch out their pre/pro or dac several times over that time period. Additionally, some speakers require a significant amount of power that most integrated amps don't typically provide. Notably, the speakers with those power requirements often cost 5 figures....so cost isn't exactly an issue for these folks.

Anybody have a decent experience with Monoprice support? I bought a turntable from them and a simple question turned real weird. I had used them for years without any problem.

Interesting so at what price point for receiver do you find that is easy to get outputs that go to one of these amps? For instance I have a onkyo 676 right now, would I just use speaker to XLR adapter? Thanks

Sorry if I missed it, why do you need more power than an avr can provide on its own?

You generally only need more power if you're driving low impedance or low efficiency speakers in a very large room at reference level, which itself is uncomfortably loud to most people.

What's so special about this amplifier as compared to others? Curious to know as it's highly priced

I don't think I do, but I was curious how the setup goes. Do they buy a receiver with XLR outputs or a lower end but with all the current atmos etc and use speaker wire to XLR.

Just wanting to learn how they use something like this.
