Edit: as someone else mentioned, Chase Freedom is 5% PayPal starting October 1st.
Sometimes these 5% rotating category cards will offer Target (directly) in Q4, though seems like not this year.
There is no problem using a different card than the Red Card. Just switch on checkout. The Target Circle discount remains intact.
This type of purchase offers flexibility. The gift cards really came in handy for me when Target was forced to rotate the inventory. I used them for two TCL Roku televisions that were on heavy clearance advertised here but nobody in store would know about because the actual price was far lower than the clearance sign price. Likewise I got a rotating composter that was on clearance.
