I have looked at the manual and called Acer, they have confirmed that the USB-C port does NOT support Power Delivery to charge the laptop.

There's a cheaper model also available via eBay which drops the thunderbolt support for around $60. Thunderbolt expansion will, for many users, represent a kind of future-proofing they might never utilize.
