Remember you have no rights to digital you lease the digital license aka rent you do not own it. It can be removed for any reason and you agreed to these terms when signing up to digital services. The digital missing atmos and compressed weaker audio.. The video is compressed a lot to think of how dvds looked slightly better in bluray plays by upscaling. 4k downscaling is huge it still very passable but remember its compressing down from 4k dvd to bluray upscaling not good example but thats cause source fron dvd to blu is bad. Point is you got a heavily downgraded on digital 4k to casual folk they get fooled cause people get warned trying to point out stuff. Money is important these days want digital but 4k disc w digital code included then sell disc and keep digital free after cost.. or do amazon no rush digital credits

Yup, 4K Blu-Ray is absolutely higher quality, but given the choice between practicality and quality most people will choose practicality. Sure, digital versions are compressed, but most people don't have the best TV's or HT systems to be able to appreciate (or even notice) the difference. Sure, you can save a few bucks buying the physical copy, selling the disc and keeping the digital copy, but that takes extra time (and time is money). Sure, you own the disc vs "lease" the digital copy, but physical media has a practical lifespan too (when was the last time you popped in a VHS tape?) and takes up physical space in your home, however small. Speaking of popping something in, digital takes that extra step out of the equation. If our society has demonstrated anything, it's that cheaper and easier always win (quality notwithstanding). Kinda sad, but true.

Thanks Debbie D. For something that's been explained to us a thousand times this one was particularly hard to decode.

Also to be clear you always agreed to license your physical media too, none of you have ever owned any piece of media at all (EULA)

Good advice with buying the discs and getting free codes, but imo they can't take Away your digital at any point without giving you a refund. They can put in the terms of service that you owe them your firstborn child but it doesn't make it legal or valid. These days companies go way over the top with the TOS but it is entirely wishful thinking. Any court would side with the purchaser if at any point the "sold" product is repossessed by the seller despite the financials being in good standing.

Let us know when NBC Universal kicks down your front door SWAT style to confiscate your home movie collection and optical players. Digital movies on the other hand require them maintaining an online presence to host digital content. A service they can end, speed / limit bandwidth, or even start charging you, without notice, to access the movies you 'bought'...err license. Don't believe me, check your EULA until then you'll bluray player will work as long as you have access to 115v power Wink

"Practicality" swings both ways. Optical discs have their own advantages as well. They don't require an internet connection to work, do not have buffering issues, nor can content be changed / deleted because censorship. We live in an age where math books are too 'woke' for kids in one state and even a simple joke in another state is labeled anti-whomever. Regardless of where you sit on the political spectrum, we've all seen digital content edited or effectively buried to suit the whims of the Karens out there. Can't happen on optical media...unless that SWAT team shows up Wink
