Please understand that refilling the dark green tanks can land you in trouble. Technically refining them is illegal, though no one is going to be kicking your door in when you do this (certainly). BUT, if your house catches fire or you end up with injuries, don't expect the insurance companies to help you out. And if you decide to transport them? Well, that's a significant penalty with the NHTSA.

There is a lime green can out there that CAN be refilled legally. They had a recall, but are back in the market again. Also, maybe look into a 5 lb tank that has the proper purge valve if you need a smaller form factor than your typical bbq tank.

If refilling them was illegal, amazon's risk management people wouldn't allow these to be sold. As for transporting them on public highways, yes, that's very illegal.

Can you site any law Federal or even state for that matter that says refilling these 1lb tanks for personal use is somehow illegal lol

Spreading misinformation just cause you heard someone else say it don't make it true.

Walmart sells these in the camping isle. Walmart doesn't typically sell illegal items. Mr heater is a reputable company as well, they wouldn't make them either if that were the case: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mr-Hea...s/49406261

ROFLMAO. Illegal? I don't think so. Dangerous? Only if you don't know how to do it correctly. The Coleman 1lb tank can be refilled a couple times before it is trash.

"a couple times"? Not much margin for error. Sounds like an acknowledgement that the TP's warning is legit...

The US DOT's recommendation is to refill 1 lb. cans "Never", as "These types of containers were not designed to withstand the stresses of emptying and refilling." Russian roulette isn't slick. https://www.phmsa.dot.gov/regulat...-bottles-0

this is the way. you can fill the small 5 or 10 lb tanks anywhere you can fill a 20lb. they are plenty small enough for car camping and no headaches trying to fill the 1lb tanks. and no matter how you do it, you arent getting 1lb tanks full as they are new, so you end up having to bring numerous small ones just to get through a meal..

Insurance will walk away from you if anything happens. Rules or not, this is caveman-level dumb. Geico doesn't apply.
