My friend is currently DMing but wants to be on the other side of the screen. I've never DMed so I'm going to cut my teeth on starter sets. Just today, I was looking at the one I received as a gift last Christmas. Perfect timing to add a second option.

This starter set is very new and, unfortunately, unpopular, especially when compared to the first starter set (Lost Mines of Phandelver) and the essentials kit (Dragon of Icespire Peak).
However, while I have not run this new adventure, Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, $10 for a brand new product which includes basic rules and an adventure for levels 1 through 3 is a great price. This would be a good one-off adventure for a new DM and/or new players.
The other two adventures I mentioned both take place in the same general location on the mainland of the Sword Coast, so a DM could easily opt to mesh together their stories and quests if desired. Even better, there is a variety of other adventures meant to bring players to higher levels set in close proximity to these Sword Coast adventures, such as Storm Lord's Wrath and the Waterdeep books.
TL;DR: While I have not played this starter set yet, it would be a good introductory adventure for a new DM and/or players. The other starter set and essentials kit are more popular, but $10 for this new one is a great price.

I got the 3 you mentioned for $10 each.
They release them, sell a few at regular price and then 50% off seems to come up.
The next one should be the same.
