The last HDDs I ordered from WD came in a box with the plastic end supports on each HDD to cushion it. I ordered 2 drives, each came in its own box, with both boxes inside a bigger box with cushioning taking up the extra space.
The last HDD I ordered from Amazon came with the bare drive sliding around inside a box with no additional cushioning inside. I don't really trust Amazon to ship HDDs anymore.
I don't recommend buying from Newegg anymore. They got caught sending defective returned merchandise to a customer, then denied his attempt to return it. A client of mine was also scammed by them the same way - claimed he broke the drives when we never even took them out of Newegg's packaging. But if you don't care, it looks like they've price matched as well. They also shipped bare drives, but they'd tape them inside like 3 inches of bubble wrap.
Supposedly returns are a PITA if you purchase directly from WD. Those of you hesitant to buy from WD may want to wait and see if Best Buy price matches. (Edit: Looks like BB is OOS.)
I also had a Citi promotion that I received in my email which gives me $20 for using my card to pay for a PayPal purchase after I activated it:

That's from a 3rd party seller. I assume Amazon matched on the 16TB & 18TB drives too, since they did on the other sizes, but ran out of stock.

I only have 1 experience ordering a drive from Amazon and it was one of these Red Pro drives about 1.5 years ago.
It came in the box with the plastic ends for support. That box was in a bigger box which contained other things I ordered at the same time. Fortunately that box was well packed so the box with the drive wasn't bouncing around.
I already ordered a smaller capacity on Amazon but now that you mention it, I will keep an eye on Best Buy just in case Amazon screws up the shipment.
