I have a AX86U and I have been struggling with the 160mhz bandwidth . For some reason it keeps dropping it to 80MHz. A reboot or a firmware update some times fixes it but I was looking for a permanent solution. Does this router have the same problem?

I surely hope not 😁 But in all seriousness, this is probably firmware related - downgrade to an older firmware to see if the problem goes away.
I have one running as an AP with the latest Merlin firmware. No issues. Im upgrading my home network to 2.5gig, so I just ordered another one to replace my RT-AX88U main router. Too bad they dont have an EVA02 themed one.
Picked up two for mesh network. Support for Asuswrt-Merlin is an added bonus.
I have been in the debate over RT-AX86U vs GT-AX600 for two months. At this price, I pulled the trigger on AX6000. I am not a gamer, but have a bunch of 2.4GHz (blinds, cameras etc...) and plenty of 5GHz clients as well. Currently, I have two RT-AC86Us.
Would love to hear any feedback people who 2.5Gbps backhaul set-up.
Get a N5105 with Intel NICs for $120 off AliExpress and run OPNsense off it. Then get some $99 Unifi APs and you have a setup that is leaps ahead of this router.

That makes sense.
I already have an old desktop. I should be able to run OPNSense in a VM and controlling the APs, right? Just need to buy a couple of NICs.
Take his "reviews" with a grain of salt. He only tests line of sight performance. Most of those numbers do not translate to real world, especially on lower end routers when factoring distance and walls.
While this is a good price (and lowest) for a GT-AX6000, the one I tested didn't exactly work the best in my environment. In fact, PHY rates were lower than my older AC based GT-AC2900 with same AX210 clients.
LoS performance was indeed exceptional and throughput is better than Gen 1 AX and Wave 2 AC.
WIFI is something that's highly variable. Should test multiple designs (in your home) before making a decision.

Test both. Compare PHY rates/performance at your specific distance.
Modem can also influence performance, so I can't really knock it.. Just be aware that there could be better options subjectively.

ASUS needs a non-gaming router that has multi-gig WAN and with range like the ax88u. I have both and the 86u just doesn't reach as far.

Yep that's the real question!
