I think all the review websites list this screwdriver as top 3.

I guess if you have to have it, it's an okay price, at best.

Why use this instead of a 12v impact driver?

This seems like a lot for what it is. Just stick to 20v

Screwdrivers and impact drivers are two totally different categories.

I have the similar DEWALT 8V MAX Cordless Screwdriver Kit, Gyroscopic, 1 Battery, Electric (DCF682N1)

It's REALLY nice the way it works based on how far you twist it, but the gyroscope etc does get confused a times and just does nothing.Lol.

Nah, right tool for the job. Very little risk of cam out / damage with this 8V, plus the pistol-grip / in-line flexibility is really handy.

I've had this thing for years and use it several times a week -- great tool and good price.

I'd stay with the 12V and use something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCF...FI5NHGNZ61

You can adjust the torque

Tools like these are often used by electricians for doing finish work (wiring terminals and mounting receptacle and switches into boxes, putting on trim plates, etc.) You want something small and lightweight and NOT too much torque. These can drop into a small carry bag of tools, or onto a belt pouch without having to strap on 5 lbs of Wattage and Torque you don't need or even want.

There are some Milwaukee ones of this style (not gyroscopic) that have been around for years. I think they are 4V. Many have wished they would update the Milwaukee 4V model but I don't think they have. This DeWalt is newer design and I think intended for the same market.

NOTE: not a drill. not an impact driver. not intended to be.

EDIT looks like this tool has been around for a while also -- earliest reviews are from 2013. I the Milwaukee 4V have been out even longer. Seems like a segment of the market that should be updated with compact well-built screwdrivers.

I love this tool and its gyroscopic activation however it can take getting some used to. I wouldn't want to go back to a normal back/forward button setup though.

Not like this one. You have to try it. It's pretty amazing how delicately you can drive a screw.

Use this for delicate electronics, cheap furniture, any "light duty" items that doesn't require excessive torque.

This is my go two driver for battery compartments, electrical outlets, server screws, bicycle parts, etc. Things you do not want to go full send with an actual impact driver.

I have this and the M12 screwdriver 2401-22. The gyro requires the user to twist the entire device, but the m12 is just a trigger pull, while the device itself stays stationary, so i found the m12 ieasier for finer control even though it is heavier.
