Thanks I'm reading that the issuing bank for MC increased the activation fee from $6.95 to $7.95 recently so buying 2 cards will cost $15.90 in fees. I'll wait to see if Staples brings back the no-fee MC/Visa promo.

I use my Chase Ink for 5% cashback at office supply stores to purchase these. I spend them at doctor's offices, car mechanic, school tuition, insurance premium, etc. where I would normally just get the base cb from a regular cc.

I read the long thread about this at DoC and no one mentions the variable load so they probably don't have them. Most people buy a $200+100 or 2x$200. It was a MM last year when the fee was $6.95 each.

This was in middle of 2022.
Now in 2023 payment gets denied.
I don't know if it is just Vanilla with this problem or whether all Mastercard and Visa gift cards will have this problem.

I am able to use the physical gift cards in person, but using them online is tricky. It seems they can get locked for no reason.

I used to be able to link them to Paypal and pay using Paypal.
