I bought a Roomba J8+ at Costco a month ago. I am not completely satisfied with it. Should I buy this one? J8+ vs S7+?
Which part are you not happy with? None are perfect and all have tradeoffs. I have the J7+ (no-mop) and S7 MaxV Plus (Vaccum base without mop cleaner; and obstacle avoidance with the added cameras vs S7+).
Roomba currently still has the best carpet cleaning with the dual brushes but Roborock's S8 series coming out soon will finally have it too; I haven't seen any reviews on it yet. None of the Roombas I know have lidar navigation or live location/path in the app, so the Roborock navigation is much better IMHO. Still both can get lost or frustrating with navigation; Roomba much more often. I've heard support for both isn't great, so buying from Costco might not be a bad idea. Both are pretty well made and often encourage DIY fixes, which isn't great either (no personal experience), but we have an older S4 that's still going strong.
A few smaller things:
Without lidar on top, the Roomba fits under one of my couches.
I really like Roomba's app feature of saving zones. Roborock now has that somewhat with Routines.
Roomba still has a patent on the bin-full sensor tech, so while the Roborock has the base it doesn't sense the vacuum is full to go auto-empty as needed. There's a workaround with Routines in the Roborock app, but surprised that it's not more talked about in reviews.
Battery life of my J7+ is way too low. It's fine that it can go back and charge but often takes 2x as long or more, with a ton of time sitting on the charger.
Roborock's "Plus" base offers a bagless option that's an add-on.
My vote would be the S7+ refurb from Roborocks eBay store if/when it's in stock (was $560 recently).

In the month I have owned the J8+ it has been unable to finish vacuuming my house without getting stuck. The bumper gets stuck every time. We have had issues with mapping. Having to restart the mapping process multiple times. I am assuming the lidar on the S7+ will do a better job on mapping the house.
I have a roborock "mi robot vacuum" that I purchased in 2018. It's been great and I absolutely love it. How big of an upgrade would one of these be? We just moved into a new house with high pile carpet, and the current vacuum can't hack it. It's just sooo slow and doesn't seem to do well on carpet. Just wondering if one of these, even the $299 one, would be a major upgrade.

I also have the original mi robot vacuum, and upgraded to the S5 Max a few years ago. The S5 Max does a much better job on high pile carpet. I imagine every one of these options will be a significant upgrade for you.

If you make the change, you will gain mopping functionality but lose obstacle avoidance.
