Might be an OK deal, but I highly recommend getting laptops with 12th gen or newer intel processors. Better battery life and biggest jump in performance of any generational jump.

Highly recommend against getting the alcantara. My work laptop is a Surface Laptop 2 and in 2 years it has stained so bad.

I strongly recommend against the Surface line of devices, as they're not meant to be repairable. iFixit gives the Surface Laptop a 0/10, Surface Book 1/10, and and Surface Pro 1/10.

MSFT repairs usually consist of a full device swap. Out of warranty repairs are exceedingly expensive, such as $600 service fee for a Surface Book battery. And you aren't told or guaranteed what machine you'll get back in return....just "of equal power". Very loose interpretation -- by whose definition of "equal"?

Best Buy's Geek Squad, last I checked, refuses to even touch the Surface line.

There's no way I can recommend the Surface line, unless you plan on selling it before the warranty expires. And such a "pump n' dump" disposable approach to consumer electronics is rather terrible for the environment, reinforcing poor business practices.

In stores, check out demo models of the Surface Laptops with the alcantara. They feel and look disgusting. At least you're getting paid to handle crud like that.

Been rocking surface like since day one... Never needed a repair. I cracked a surface pro 3... I should have replaced it, but I already had a surface book 2 fully loaded just waiting because I would not stop using the 3. I have a had a lot of surface tablets... Just gave one to a friend for his kid. I am stilling using he book 2 and a surface go.

One thing I used to have is a Microsoft warranty, just like with apple care. They always took care of me. Even out of warranty, never had an issue with those two or Samsung for warranty issues... Even sometimes accidentals...

When my unit kicks the bucket for a battery, that might be a good deal, but so far, I have. No battery issues.

Blame the consumers... We allowed all of the the unrepairable devices. I do my own repairs and upgrades... No one but me complains about apple with the same issue, but what can you do now?! Nothing. We are stuck... So thankfully I have yet to need to dump a surface. I sold all devices, even the broken one was sold on ebay for parts, lol!!!! I have yet to lose on them, that includes rt models.

That 0/10 repairability should be for old surface laptop. Laptop 4 uses magnetics to keep bottom cover attached. Just 4 screws and one cable then you're in.

"Never needed a repair."

Well GOOD FOR YOU, my child. I'm glad you're so lucky you never needed one. Unfortunately, not everyone is in the same position as you. So stop and consider for a hot moment that you're not the only person on this planet, and think about someone else's issues, hmm?

Out of Warranty repairs at Microsoft are extraordinarily expensive. Maybe Samsung is better -- I hope so. Heck, even Apple is cheaper.

"Blame the consumers." Normally I don't victim shame here, but I'd make an exception for you honey.

Well, you act like they all are bad. I hate to say it like this, but I've been in the industry for far too long and many times issues and especially when people complain the most is their fault. All I said was that is the same position as apple... I accidentally broke my iPad pro couple years ago... I found it because find my iPad told me it was in the back of a police car. I guess maybe I'll put it in my truck dropped it got run over... Apple didn't fix it, they charged me $400 to replace it.

So we're just in a place in society where cars and everything else are going down the path of not being user serviceable and we have to fight against that... But the surface line up has been really good for me and I just put my personal experience out there just like you did.

Like I said in my past with various products from these three companies I mentioned, I have done in warranty and out of warranty repair where they have taken care of me either for free or I had to pay... But a lot of times just coming with a little sugar and being nice to the rep will get you a long ways with out of warranty repairs. And zero cost. So that's why I don't do a bunch of complaining, I go in with some type of honesty and understanding and people actually respect that a lot.

Still have my surface (1) rt. I laid down on it 6 years ago but still works, aside from touchscreen issue where the digitizer must have cracked. Slow as hell, not that it was ever fast.
