Waiting for $800. Onkyo also raised the refurb price by like $150 on their site from $850.

Best price for a receiver with Dirac room correction software but too many reviews with reliability issues with this model.

This is a great receiver. Only downside is the 2 subwoofer channels runs as one. But Dirac is amazing room correction.

Wow....23 lbs for a 9.2 AVR with class A/B amplification
One can see where they cost cut here

I get it though..had to get it to a price point

Years ago Onkyo built 7.1 channel AVR's that were 55lbs

I am not sure if we can assume weight loss for home theater systems is quality or cost cut. Look at the old TV's , they were heavy and the new T v's are light and many times better. So it could be that new technology is helping reduce weight eithout sound quality compromise?
Also to my own point if it is fair to compare weight loss in TVs and home theaters!!

We most certainly can if its the same technology

I am willing to bet that if we bench tested this receiver against the ones that weighed more than twice as much in no way would it test as well in regard to amp/power supply

Class A/B amplifier technology hasnt changed much is years...decades even

Case in point...check out an old Rotel 1095 from a decade ago. About 85-90lbs for a 5 channel class A/B amp
Today you can look at a Monolith 5X that weighs about the same and bench tests about the same

TV technology, as you mentioned, has changed significantly over the years with different technologies of display technology

Crutchfield only has about 29 reviews mostly good but Amazon seems to have the most reviews over 100 and there are many reviews which scare me

Yep, can't trust Amazon reviews.

I've wondered about exactly this. Is there any content that actually uses 2 separate subwoofer channels?

Don't think it exists and I can't imagine that would have a benefit, given you shouldn't even be able to tell exactly where the bass frequencies are being produced. The benefit of them acting separately is for calibration/room correction of each sub individually

No but point is you can't EQ the two subwoofers separately without an additional device.
