Product Name: | Onkyo TX-NR7100 |
Product Description: | Featured review I have a fairly basic speaker layout, but this unit has all the inputs required to handle a bunch of old school gear (VCR, cassette, turntable, etc). Initial setup was a breeze and sound is great. Gives me a solid foundation to upgrade speakers, TV and DVD player. Christian from Menlo Park, CA See all 29 reviews |

One can see where they cost cut here
I get it though..had to get it to a price point
Years ago Onkyo built 7.1 channel AVR's that were 55lbs

Also to my own point if it is fair to compare weight loss in TVs and home theaters!!

I am willing to bet that if we bench tested this receiver against the ones that weighed more than twice as much in no way would it test as well in regard to amp/power supply
Class A/B amplifier technology hasnt changed much is years...decades even
Case in point...check out an old Rotel 1095 from a decade ago. About 85-90lbs for a 5 channel class A/B amp
Today you can look at a Monolith 5X that weighs about the same and bench tests about the same
TV technology, as you mentioned, has changed significantly over the years with different technologies of display technology
Crutchfield only has about 29 reviews mostly good but Amazon seems to have the most reviews over 100 and there are many reviews which scare me
