I wonder if it has the same flatness that plagues JBL headphones. Don't get me wrong, the quality is great, but they all just sound so flat and lifeless

Rtings review. Bass only extends to around 50Hz by JBL spec, 55Hz in Rtings test and there doesn't appear to be a way to add a separate subwoofer. Review seems pretty lukewarm. At $250 I expect there are better options.

JBL isn't what they used to be. Lotta buggy software on their soundbars

I was hoping this would allow hooking up a traditional powered sub too but doesn't appear to have any outputs other than eARC.
On that note, are there any good sound bars that do have an lfe built in and some sort of crossover to push the bass to the sub and keep the mid-higher frequencies on the bar?

"Better than the crap tiny speakers built in to modern super thin lcds?"
Sure. But low bar is low.
