I have a deep love for these quirky little guys, but not the biggest fan of the reissue. It's cool they're out there. It's just something seems something was lost in the translation.

As others have speculated, Fender probably used St. Vincent's heavily modified repainted green Lead II as inspiration for the reissue. Would've been cool if Fender included some of those wild electronics to offset the blandness of the reissue. But, I guess for $550 a cool paint job is a good start for a project guitar.

I dont know. It has the switches that let you do coil splitting and in/out of phase. Those are electronic features like the american Pro IIs, lol.

What's the advantage of not having a pickup in the middle?

I hear ya. The phase switch on the lead ii is cool, but imo ultimately will be rarely used. Most vintage lead ii's were modded in some way and I think it would've been cool if Fender embraced that. Extra body routing, unique pickups, etc

Vintage lead ii's are great modding platforms. In a manufacturing quirk, the bridge pickup is routed for a humbucker but were delivered with two single coils, so there's a lot you can do with it.

For us HH players that is a big deal. Always hitting that center pickup with my pick.

If you don't love the color, Sweetwater has this in crimson red with $200 bonus bucks. It's a store credit instead of an upfront discount, but still seems like a good deal. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/...ransparent

As an owner of a 1981 Lead I, approve of this monstrosity. Seth Lover-designed pickups would have been the icing on the cake, but since he's, y'know, dead, these will have to do!

This is technically an "S - S" vs. your "H - H", no?nod

Correct, I'd be fine with this guitar! But a standard strat S S S or H S S strat kills me. I'm sure he probably wanted to know tonally the difference which other than having fewer options I wouldn't be able to speak on.

Bad deal, no deal. You see these new at lower price on Ebay. And used you can get one at almost half this price. PASS
