Very true. And even if it is a HEPA grade media there is no way the filter box or the edge of the filter itself (photo shows just cardboard, no gasket at all) will create a seal good enough to force air through the filter but most likely will travel around the entire assembly...negating any filtration. Air will follows the path of least resistance.

The finer the filtration the more of a pressure loss seen over the face of the filter media.

Big holes = big particles getting through = high volume of air
Little holes (especially from alleged "HEPA") = captures much smaller particles = LOW LOW LOW air flow a vast majority of cars were not designed for.

Causing a restriction in your AC can cause all sorts of problems:
-air escaping where it is not intended to
-low air flow (duh)
-poor performance
-your coil freezing into a block of ice due to humidity sitting on the cold coil, this can cause mold or even legionnaires disease
-force parts of your AC duct system to come apart from the pressure
-all sorts of harm to the AC system in general

Good news is...I highly doubt at $5-8 this is actual "HEPA" media.

More info needed? Google "high merv filters air flow" (Higher MERV = less flow = should capture smaller particles) or "problems with restrictive air filters"
Last time I got one of these, they were completely unglued on 2 edges, which lets air bypass the filter media (which doesn't flow all that well to start)

Not all things are designed to run HEPA media.
Unless your vehicle is factory HEPA it is usually a bad idea to add it aftermarket with the same size filter

Plus it'll cut down the air flow. A friend's boss bought a hepa filter for his Ford and then couldn't figure out why the blower fan was worthless in the summer heat last year… Friend put a normal filter in and fixed the issue.

Link? its basic physics. I work in the pharma business where keeping things clean and HEPA filters are many times the size of a normal filter for same airflow as they are much more restrictive, require a much more powerful motor to move air. Replacing your standard filter with a HEPA will either cause your HVAC to fail for over working or lack of airflow, and/or rupture the filter (if its not already broken as some have pointed out) in order to move air therefore negating any filtering at all. Your car has so many other sources of air to get in there is no point in trying to make it HEPA unless you do something crazy like Elon and seal up the rest of the car and put in a massive HEPA on the intake for the few Tesla that have that option

EPAuto charcoal filters are still ~$6 cheaper for my Honda cars.

BOSCH is the best cabin air filter I have ever used. Super high quality and you can definitely feel it is filtering better than the other brands. The only drawback is it is having restricted air flow. (of cause! you can't beat physic, it is doing its job.)

So net/net, Bosch shouldn't be making this product and Amazon shouldn't be selling this product?

If people will buy it, someone will sell it

Just cause its HEPA doesn't mean it'll slow down air flow. A good quality HEPA filter will have many more pleats (more surface area) to compensate for the tighter filter media weave. I've seen lab testing on units with few pleats (non HEPA) and ones with many pleats (HEPA) and air flow was similar.
