Lenovo has a horrible history with their Android tablets. Some models never see a single major upgrade, and there's even been a few where they never saw a single upgrade ever after release. I bought one once and regretted it.

I'm curious, what exactly is the concern/is the tablet missing out on, by not getting the updates that you refer to? Are these crucial/important updates that will cause the tablet to slow down, not function properly, or to basically become unusable? For a basic user (no gaming), would these updates be a cause for concern?

On the customer reviews on the Walmart website, this tablet actually has a good rating (4.4/5 stars out of 139 reviews), so it's tempting to want to buy this, as I've been wanting to try to get a reasonably good/affordable tablet, at a relatively good/affordable price ($100-$200 range). And I happen to have some Walmart store credit that I could use to pay for it, so this is particularly tempting for me, personally.

However, I must admit that I know very little about tablets. So, if you, or anyone else, would like to reply and share some more feedback about this tablet, and what may be a better alternative that is available for a similar price (especially, a tablet that could be purchased from Walmart), I would really appreciate a helpful response.

Also, I am just looking for a tablet that will be good for relatively basic, common uses. Like, browsing social media apps (Reddit, Facebook Instagram), checking out SlickDeals, watching YouTube, and listening to podcasts.

I have never owned a Lenovo tablet, but I have bought Samsung tablets in the past so am very familiar with tablets. I decided to purchase this yesterday due to the price and reviews I read. I bought a Lenovo Legion laptop last year and have been 100% satisfied with it. I think Lenovo is really stepping up their game the last few years.

As far as updates go, this unit is expected to get Android 13 2nd qtr of this year. As far as security updates, time will tell but they are supposed to maintain security updates until 2025. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/...ade-matrix.

I think this tablet will be great for your use case. I intend to use mine as a DJI quadcopter controller as well and as long as the screen is visible in the sun, it will perform that function well.

I bought this around Christmas as my old Samsung Tab died. It's ok, and does the job of a basic tablet. I tried to clear out all the bloatware as it has some junk on it (FM radio...seriously wtf) but overall it's not too bad. I find it to be a bit laggy navigating and using apps. I can play board games and such on it but I think anything more would be a bit much for it. Battery life is pretty good as well. Watched 5 hours of movies on a flight and still had battery left once I landed. I was minding the brightness, but picture and performance was good.

I needed a tablet for basic use and while I have Apple devices, I did not feel like spending $600+ to get the kind of iPad that I would want to keep. For web browsing, YouTube, Netflix, etc this works just fine. I also went through and debloated by uninstalling everything that I didn't need. This is not a powerhouse, but for the price, its got a great screen, good speakers, runs well enough (the 4GB version, I would avoid the 3GB one) and is getting security updates and will get another major version of Android per Lenovo.

i think it's like that for many tablet vendors. even if they do update it, it's never for long - i'm looking at you, sony! get a laptop with touchscreen instead. that'll probs last longer than most non updated tablets.......

I stay away from Lenovo android tablets after buying one. Samsung or bust... and only the Samsung S series, maybe A8 with high ram but that's borderline mehh at best.

I can think of more than a few reasons why having the radio is a great thing. Every device should have it, quite frankly.

I'm all ears. What crucial capability does this app have that justifies it being uninstallable on devices? It's not even usable without wired headphones which are the minority of listening devices at this point.

Easy access to local news. Latest songs. If you can bear with annoying ads FM is still good to have as an option

Hardware management? IE, without the app, there may be nothing to send to the driver/kernel basic hardware management commands.

Well Target currently has the 9.7" basic iPad (last gen though) for $250 if you just need basic task and already in the Apple ecosystem. Over $100 more expensive than this Lenovo, yes, but something to consider if not wanting to spend $600 on another Apple device.
