I bought a strat from the last deal. Out of the box it wasn't terrible for the price but definitely needed some setup work to make it great. I filed the fret ends and did some finish sanding on the neck. They weren't the worst I've ever seen, but we're pretty sharp and annoying. I also filed the nut slots a bit. They were cut way too narrow and shallow for the strings and were causing tuning issues. The neck was also perfectly straight so I had to loosen the truss rod a bit to give it a little relief. The intonation wasn't terrible but a few adjustments later and it's actually really good.
If you're looking for a guitar to learn how to do setups on, these are perfect.

You literally have to do similar work to a $500 or $1000 guitar right out of the box.
Considering the price point of this starter guitar and how it sounds straight out of the box...this is a NO-Brainer purchase - If you have ANY desire to pick up playing guitar again, or want to buy this for a kid that may want to play guitar, DON'T THINK - JUST BUY!!! You Will NOT Be Sorry!
Note: There are plenty of video's on YouTube of others unboxing this guitar and playing it out of the box, or doing a setup of these guitars, including helpful teardowns. Yes, there are very cheap simple upgrades one can do to this...but for the the price point - DON'T THINK - Just Buy!!
Oh man! Slick deal! I purchased the blonde Tele for $100 a couple weeks ago along with the sky blue Strat deal for $60. The blonde that I got is in great shape for even at $100. The only issue that I had was my fingers being covered in grime from the strings after playing for an hour. Nothing a simple wipe down or new strings couldn't have solved.
Now the question is, do I return the blonde for this navy blue to save $29 after tax and risk getting a worse one?
I got this in the mail 2 weeks ago. It is surprisingly very well built and put together. Perfect paint, didn't have to do any adjusting of the bridge for intonation, neck feels smooth sliding your hand up an down. The frets were a little sharp but knocked those down using a fret file (which every guitarist should have one) and its a joy to play. I did buy some Fleor Alnico pickups from AliExpress that will arrive at the end of the month and I will swap the ceramic pickups for the Fleor Alnico ones. However, out of my Spark 40 amp and Katana 100 amp, it sounds pretty good out of the box. The neck pickup is a little quiet so I might try and raise it up a bit.
Also, I am usually an acoustic player and only own one mid-price electric (ESP LTD EC-256) and a Squier '51 and never have played a Fender MIM or Fender American before so my bar is pretty low.
I also picked up from Monoprice the Strat that was onsale for $57 last week and that thing needed a lot of work. The neck felt grimey, there was an indent on the top of the paint, frets were razor sharp, strings were corroded, and I'm going to need to polish the fret. The telecaster in this deal was meticulously shipped and the strings were wrapped.
So moral of my story is if you are deciding between this telecaster vs the Stratocaster that Monoprice sells, they took more care of this telecaster at the factory. Great deal on a guitar for you to experiment modding and maintenance and play without worry about bumps and bruises.
I ordered one of these a week or so ago before they went out of stock last time. I'd like to say it's great for the price but it still hasn't been marked as shipped. The usual Monoprice jank.

I just opened mine yesterday. It's really not bad, although the strings are rusted a bit, and the high E tuner worries me — it tunes, but there's one place where you have to apply force to make it turn, and then it's easy again (it's not stripped, it's actually working and holding tune). And of course, dressing the frets won't hurt.
Over the time I'll change a few things on it, just to teach myself how to do it. But it's playable right out of the box, and this fact keeps me really amused.

Sure there will be some upkeep as it's not perfect by any means, but I know of no better value right now.

Yeah. Same. Mine came with a bent string on the 12th fret.
But for this price, you can't beat it.
