The 3050 Ti performs well enough for most gaming needs. This isn't meant for a desktop replacement but has the capability of being one with the eGPU support. You're buying this laptop for the form-factor, touchscreen, stylus support and general performance.

The CPU is soldered, and so are the voltage regulators, and the other ICs and chips on the board. What do you plan to do with them, take them out and look at them? I don't understand this obsession with removable parts, almost nobody does it, and you need the memory you should have just bought one with more memory in the first place.

It's kind of like adding a 2nd gas tank to your car after you've had it for 5 years, and you drive it the same you did before. You either needed it on day 1, or you didn't need it at all.

Use case Autodesk Civil 3D. For me this hits all checks except for missing RAM slot. At the 'sale' price 32GB should be standard if its soldered + running Windows OS.

Got to wait for the next Asus G14 openbox deal for that one upgradeable RAM slot .🤓

Exactly!!! I'm looking for a good unit for large scale data analysis and GIS. Large amounts of ram aren't optional, they are necessary. I'm so sick of gamers telling us that soldered ram is fine in such small amounts.

I think we're at a strange little plateau where 16gb is fine for most tasks, but 32gb is better and more future-proof. Remember 5 years ago when 8gb was okay, and would run most games and applications well, but you knew it wasn't going to be ideal going forward?

In your analogy, it's more like the City keeps "upgrading" to make your daily route longer and longer, and the rodes themselves get "improved" with more hills, bumps and potholes. Now the amount of gas that used to be fine, doesn't get you quite as far anymore.
Also, we should all welcome and push for more easily repairable and upgradable tech. Less e-waste and all that.

Why are you even looking at a ultra book sized, touch screen laptop with a discrete gpu in the first place? There isn't a comparable laptop out there so if it fits a person's niche use case then it's meant for them. The size of this laptop coupled with the discrete GPU, powerful CPU and cooling necessitates soldered ram. There are practically an endless # of laptops that fit your needs. If you travel a lot and want something super lightweight to toss around and do work on and still be able to fire up a game here and there, this is for you. If that doesn't describe you, look elsewhere.

Jesus Christ...

4GB is still fine for most tasks, your computer doesn't really do anything it didn't do 10 years ago. I wouldn't personally buy anything with less than 8, but 16-32 is overkill except for specialty applications...e.g. scientific or engineering type applications, particularly in a laptop imo.

More memory doesn't make your computer faster (other than dual channel enhancement), it just provides more temporary storage for applications that can make use of it.

If that is your use case then you're not really looking for a 13.5" ultrabook in the first place. Stop confusing lightweight gaming systems for mobile workstations and start shopping for devices designed for those workloads.
