You can only use this if what you're connecting has a way to interface since you'll need to select it.

Yes. You would connect this to the dumb/analog device and have it transmit to your headset.

Didn't know they made these. I didn't buy this specific one but I did buy the bluetooth car adapter [monoprice.com] and the highest end version [monoprice.com] of this posts deal which is also on sale.

I imagine if I used this with a video device like a patio tv to send audio to an avr with wired speakers I'd be disappointed in the latency.
