Thanks, picked up an open box for $350, looks good so far. No intention to game but needed a chromebook with 15.6" touchscreen and reasonable hardware, this checks all of my boxes

If you don't need the touch screen you're probably better off with the one that's $50 cheaper with a 2560x1600 120hz 16" screen and a 12th gen processor.

That said the cpu difference probably doesn't matter that much for most stuff you'd do on a chromebook (unless you're doing a lot of stuff in crostini in which case 8gb of ram might be an issue).

My guess is you've likely been shopping premium chromebooks for a bit... and if so, why worry?

About the only close competitor in the this range as of late has been an Acer model that comes with relatively more CPU horsepower but lacks touchscreen functionality. Personally, I'll likely strive to avoid any chromebook that lacks a touchscreen going forward (and I also tend to recommend chromebooks as Android tablet alternatives when considering the availability of touchscreen options and their long ChromeOS software support lifecycles).

I think you've called out the biggest challenge when comparing the two models. The 1240P is on absolutely another level of performance relative to the otherwise potent 1135G7, but determining the value of that distinction can be a challenge for an operating system as lightweight as ChromeOS. Of course, a user who makes extensive use of the Linux sandbox might better justify the investment, but otherwise these are prioritization problems for the niche of performance chromebook enthusiasts (of which I think I could arguably consider myself one, owning both generations of Samsung Galaxy Chromebook).

This laptop's cloud gaming designation is a joke. Almost any recent computer is a cloud gaming computer if you have a fast enough internet connection, CPU from the last 7 or 8 years, and a subscription to a cloud gaming service. This laptop has a garpbage integrated graphics card so it shouldn't even be in the same sentence as "gaming computer."
