Anyone ever try to return an item to Dell Refurbished because they didn't like it or it didn't suit their need? I just returned a Latitude laptop to them that was defective, and the process was relatively painless, although it took about a half hour on automated hold to get through to their phone support (email support never responded). The return policy on their site specifically says that non-defective returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee plus shipping charges, and I'm wondering how strict they are about that.

@iconian please fix title: 5530, not 5539

got one for a friend, 419 + tax with 32GB, FS. (EDIT: Grade A)

these are the non-touch FHD. the touch models are 4K and significantly shorten battery life.

with the serial no they sent with order confirmation i looked up the exact hardware for my unit on DELL's site. i got the 97 Wh battery Smilie. but surprisingly, although i ordered the 32GB RAM, 256GB SSD variant (expecting to swap the SSD later), the part list for my unit shows a 512GB SSD... what the hell?

Not a bad price. But not a great deal, because for another $150, you can get a new laptop with a one year warranty included that you don't have to pay an extra $40 for. And the drive for the new laptop would be nvme ssd. Dell really needs cut the refurbished prices by about $50 to $75 or start including a one year refurbished warranty to be competitive.

I highly doubt you can get a new Precision for $150 more. Inspiron, sure, but I wouldn't expect an Inspiron to last much more than a year without issues.

Missing some key specifications here. Most notably, these are all 6-core, 12-thread i7-8850H CPUs. Not only will they support automatic upgrades to Windows 11, they're H-series high-performance CPUs. The performance is comparable to the newer i7-10710U (for example), though far less efficient (the newer CPU being a low-power model that sips 15W while the 8th generation H-series in this deal achieves its results drawing closer to 45W).

Additionally, all models have 1080p screens.

If there's a disappointment, it's the lack of touchscreen availability (which is typical for Precision models of this generation).

Otherwise this is solid build which could provide great long-term functionality for a wide swath of users. Ultimately, I think that something like the lower horsepower in a common Dell Micro Center deal would be a better bang-for-buck productivity PC, but as an enterprise laptop (instead of a retail device) this Dell Precision does have plenty going for it.

Good luck!
Jon

There were numerous HP Elitebook examples available sub $600 with Ryzen 5 and DDR5 a month or two back. 4+ year newer platform, new battery, and a one year warranty.

I had an opposite, but similar experience. It was painless, but I called about keyboard issues and waited on hold and didn't get anyone so, I left a voice message with call back info. I wanted for a week and didn't get anything but noticed more of my same laptop up for sale so I forwarded my "Order has Shipped" email to support explaining my issue and asking what my options were. The rep replied 24 hours later saying they didn't have any in stock but they could check if they had a replacement keyboard or that I could return it and that I'd be getting follow RMA and postage. I got the return instruction email almost immediately. I emailed back asking about the replacement keyboard and got a response a few days later saying that they had the part and I would get a tracking number. Turns out they overnighted the keyboard and I received it before I ever saw a tracking email.

Too bad they didn't design it to be very repairable. Hopefully, I don't break any tiny connecters trying to do the swap. Really love the machine and the cost vs performance is to good to abandon.

bought a 7390 latitude from dellrefurbished last year. shipping was super quick and i've used the laptop almost daily for college work. not a single issue with the unit other than one of the speakers not being quite as good as the other.

I emailed them and they replied in about 3 days regarding a crack found underneath mine. They didn't ask if I wanted an exchange or refund. They automatically authorized an exchange.

What about the ones with No OS? Those are more powerful and relatively the same price. I assume one could just acquire an OS online and install and then through updates the drivers would all get installed.

Also, do these support dual external screen output?

I don't know about these. With how quickly prices are dropping on 20 and 30 series laptops...Even as a beater these don't seem too slick to me. I got a 1080p touchscreen 14in 8th gen i5 16gb RAM for $150 on ebay last year. I had to replace the battery.
