APP-ENABLED SMART LOCK: Designed to work with iOS and Android, the Level app lets you share access with friends and family, see activity history, set auto-lock and unlock, and more. Level Bolt is also compatible with Apple HomeKit.
HOW IT WORKS: Operate your smart lock deadbolt with the Level app, pair with HomeKit for voice control, or set up auto-unlock (this feature uses geofencing technology to identify when you've reached your door with your phone nearby)

This lock is reliably weatherproof. It is installed on a gate that is fully exposed to the elements and has survived heavy rain, 100+ degree heat, 80+% humidity, and temperatures below 20.
It works via Bluetooth, so you will need to be within 10-20 feet of it to reliably use it with your phone and the Level app. The Level app will not win any design or usability awards.
If you join it to HomeKit, your HomeKit router or border device (i.e., AppleTV, HomePod) will then connect to it by Bluetooth, but it still must be within 10-20 feet of it to reliably trigger the lock. The nice thing about doing this is that you now no longer have to use the Level app.
Level stated in late 2022 that they would add Thread support to all of their devices, including this one. Thread support *could* increase the range and battery life of this lock, but that's a big *IF* they ever get around to adding the support. The most recent firmware update for this device was released about a week ago, so there is still some relatively recent development on it.
