This thread should be good. Ratio of people coming here to complain about it being overpriced versus people that understand why it costs what it does and appreciate when Patagonia is on sale will be roughly 10:1, maybe more!
Personal experience, this is an example of you get what you pay for. I have a Patagonia windbreaker that's over 20 years old. Still fully functional, no rips or tears. It just lost its DWR. I have a Patagonia fishing jacket that's a decade old. Stil perfectly functional, just a little faded. Patagonia stuff is built to last and I've seen it last. Plus it's a good company.

I've had Columbia pants that wore a hole in it the first time I washed it. Another pull over I've had about a year or two and it's all piled up, looks like shit (got that one as a gift).

$80 for a pull over isn't for everyone. You can buy a new fleece every 5 years by going cheap, that's up to you.
I would rather get a used better sweater (or a new one with a company's logo embroidered) on eBay for the same price or less. These just aren't the same and I personally don't love the teal.

Goto an outlet store. They have Patagonia and others for 50% off or more. Just google outlets near you

$80 for a sweatshirt is a slick deal fp? That's funny.

My wife buys me Patagonia crap all the time. I don't get the appeal. The clothes are no better than any other. It's funny how marketing a company as green-friendly froths up trendy suckers to throw their money at them.

This fleece will last just as long as a $20 fleece you get at Costo with the proper care. You are paying for the name brand and marketing hype.

What evidence do you have? Durability studies?

Common sense is all the study I need. I've owned a few of these overpriced garbs that were gifted to me and they've lasted just as long as the budget fleeces I've purchased at a fraction of the price.

I love the better sweater because it's high quality and looks good out of the dryer with no pilling.
I bought a different color of this shearling fleece and while it's nice it doesn't feel as high quality. There are two layers of material that aren't bonded together and the collar is pretty soft and unstructured.
