It may not be the latest and it may not be better than an equivalently priced AMD CPU, but it is a good value for an 11th generation Intel CPU and includes a CPU heatsink & fan. In addition, LGA1200 motherboards are typically a little cheaper than AMD 550/570 series Socket AM4 motherboards!

I don't disagree that the 12600k is a much better CPU, but if you made the mistake of investing in a 500 series board, now you're stuck having to upgrade your board to go 12th/13th gen.
<$200 for a CPU upgrade is an easier pill to swallow versus $400+ for an entire platform upgrade.
I have an 11400 and while it's been a solid chip (not to mention it was affordable and readily available back when the supply chain was still jacked), I've got the upgrade bug and I'll be honest…I've considered an 11700 as a stop-gap.
Even so, find a 10th used.
