Man, this thing would have gone for $2000 during lockdown summer of 2020.
No.

I bought an intex right before covid hit and off season at kmart for $299 for a 18inx48 prism frame.

I've taken it down every year because in the north winters get below 32* and according to intex they say if your temps go lower than that to remove the liner so the freezing doesn't damage the vinyl. I've now taken it apart and back up 5 times and the liner has not given me any issues. I actually just bought a spare liner off intex for $200 because now only the age of it has me worried. I've had 0 issues. I just make sure i roll it out after it's been sitting in the sun and the same when i roll it up i make sure its dry.

I've also had NO problem with my pump and you do NOT need to spend anymore aside from pool chlorine, test strips and some filters (1 lasts about the summer 4 months) but they come in packs of 2 so i end up just using the 2nd mid summer for no reason really.

In terms of my daily maintenance.

I go out, i clean out the paper filter with the hose, takes about 2 min to get the junk and bugs out. I use a test strip to check the levels and see if it needs chlorine and if it does i add some. I might vacuum the floor and scrub if if necessary...i think the kit cost me $50 for it and it connects to the existing pool filter.

Thats it.

The hardest part of settings up this pool was making sure the ground was level, which i will admit was very hard as my backyard was not level and i had about 3ft grade difference, but took me a week of doing it after work and i leveled it off and but some pavers under the legs for addition support and it's been perfect.

I think what a lot of people take for granted with these pools is that they don't need to be level and end up tearing the liner because of the added stress.
The problem with buying a $400 pool is that you will then have a $400 pool.

How is that possible if the normal price is $499?

I used my advanced mathematics degree to determine that Sam's Club was already the cheapest by 188.99 before this sale.

We've had a KD rectangle pool for 8 years now. Purchased it on closeout when they stopped making them. Now all you can get is these cheap 1 season pools with undersized equipment.

I've used the 12' and 14' round version of this pool and they last 3-4 years in my experience. I use a tarp underneath to prevent punctures/leaks and pack it into a tub in a shed over the winter.

Get minimum 48inch 4ft height if you plan to have adults. I picked up a round intex 15 or 16ft by 48 (don't remember) and it's great to splash up with growing kids with adults. Yes I bought during COVID and I overpaid at the premium. I still have the pool 2.5-3 years later.

Taking them down every year is hard on a pool liner too. If you can leave it up and put a cover on it, you'll get more life out of it. Just keep the chlorine levels stable all winter and opening up your pool in the spring is easy peasy.

My 12 foot round 5' deep Intex was still fine after 5+ years when we bought 15', but this is in Southern California where you can leave it up year round.
