saving $50 seems like a good trade-off for 9 fewer months of warranty. just burn it in real good in those 90 days. there is no optical drive nor spindle-based hard drive to fail. biggest worry to me is the controller, but those only have 90 day warranties when bundled new.
Just in time for Diablo 4!
Xbox Series S also supports Remote Play, so you can play remotely from your iPad/iPhone or Android device!
And if you get this deal, don't forget to sign up for Game Pass using one of the great deals here, can work out to like $3/month! Gives immediate access to hundreds of titles.
I have both an S and X and would HIGHLY recommend the S at this price to anyone who wants to get into the latest generation of gaming.
Worth buying for a dedicated retroarch machine if I'm willing to pay a one time $20 fee?
Update: not sure if dev mode is still needed
It's actually still possible to use emulators on Xbox Series X|S consoles running in Developer mode, which requires users to pay a one-time $20 fee in the US. However, Xbox consoles in Dev mode can't play retail games, so this isn't exactly convenient when you only have one Xbox console.

I can see where you're coming from, but I get an extra 1 year warranty from my Sapphire Rewards card. So 21 months of extra warranty for buying new is worth it IMO.

I have both and have ZERO ISSUES!!!
I always knew the s was legit, but I got the x back in the hard to get days. I keep the x at my place and the s is at my moms for when family is over there or when I am down there hunting and fishing.
With gamepass, my family and kids can play anything. I have never had a console break on me and would get a refurb. just get this and gamepass and try it all out

might as well just grab used locally - easily for $150 or less. I bet you can even find a series x for $300 if you live in near a major metro area.
Wait, I hear that Xbox are designing new versions for their event June 11th. Both S and X. Maybe they will reduce the prices for the old ones. They need the help this generation.
Just buy 20% off gift card and buy it brand new from MS direct for same price. EZ. That said, I went for the Series X for a mere $400 since it made far more sense to me, given the major advantages.

Yeah they dont resale very well on facebook marketplace prob because of the digital only and it being an entry model. Ive seen them for $100 at times. At that price its worth picking up even as a media player. It can play pretty much any 4k high bitrate media streaming or over usb.

Retail Mode is always just a reboot away, though.
