For people wondering, this makes A-MAZE-N smoked cheese that super low effort. But some basic block cheese you like and on the cool-ish day just put it in your unlit grill. Then start up the tube and place it on the other end of the gill rack. Close the lid and forget about it for few hours. After that you will have delicious smoked cheese.

It says this is for cold smoking. Would it hold up to high heat from a grill, as well?

yes it will. It's stainless steel after all. It's marketed at "cold smoking" because that's what makes the product unique. Normal smokers get too hot for cold smoking methods. But yes you can leave it on a fired grill.

It needs air flow, though. I use it on my smoker as a supplemental source of smoke, and more often than not, it will stop burning

The key if you use it as supplement smoke in a smoker is that you must put it sufficiently close to your primary source of heat to keep the burn sustained. Yes it will blow out if you put it too far away sitting in the exhaust gasses of the primary heat/smoke source that's devoid of oxygen.

I use one on my smoker and it stays lit the whole time. The trick is to adjust the airflow and place it near the airflow site so that the fire stays on.

You've got over a 2,000 degree safety margin. lol
304 stainless steel doesn't melt until about 2,600 degrees.
A hot grill 'might' reach 500 degrees.

This is typically meant for propane grills to add smoke flavor to foods?

Any grill, depending on how you use it.

Is this instead of those smoker boxes? And can I use chips and chunks in this?

I bought the 12" version of the A-MAZE-N tube a few months ago and have found it to work pretty well. The first time I used it I had it in an area that was too close to the flames on my propane grill and it burned through all the pellets right away. I re-set and it gave me a good 5/6 hours of smoke. Made some really good tasting ribs.

I had previously bought a cast iron wood chip smoker box and the tube was vastly superior.
