I've been boxing for 20 years. Gloves sold at Walmart, Target, big box sporting goods stores, etc. should be avoided. They are more likely to injure the user's hands than actually help learn skills. Even light work on a punching bag may injure your hands with these. And forget about sparring with them. Speaking from experience, when you get hit with someone using cheaply made gloves, you can actually feel their knuckles through the padding.

Ringside, Rival, Sabas, and Venom make great starter gloves at affordable prices. Most of what Everlast sells is worse than the gloves shown here. Their good gloves are available at the same retailers (even Amazon) that sell the other gloves I mentioned.

Your hands are worth the extra dough.
