I'm not understanding. I bought a Tesla Y Long Range 4 months ago. You're saying they released it now? What has changed?

So they are building cars with extra battery capacity then charging to access it? Sounds pretty wasteful for those that don't want it.

Hmmm, but why would you go for the rear wheel drive when you can get the all-wheel-drive for maybe $3000 more?

I actually scooped up a seven seater Y long range all wheel drive for $48,000

Bruh

You must really be panicking as an investor. This is the second ad um I mean thread you created to pump the model Y. Last one was what, -12? LOL and that one was $1K cheaper.

Keep up the good fight, and look for a greater fool

This is due to a government requirement of models and specs. If they receive higher capacity batteries for the packs they can't upgrade car specs on-the-fly without a new model variant registered. It's pretty dumb.

Didn't they just upgrade the specs on-the-fly for this model?

I don't understand the back and forth. Can someone provide a summary? If an RWD is $3000 cheaper than an AWD, why not? Typically for Honda Toyota crossovers, AWD is $2000 more. So this sounds reasonable.

RWD is less capable, but if I go to remote places where AWD is desired, I won't be comfortable with an EV anyway. So the RWD seems a good idea. Less things to break and probably with a bit more range?

It is about your needs and perspectives. I have AWD vehicles already and don't need another. I live in a climate that almost never require AWD. My kid is the primary driver and I don't need it to go too fast. Can I just say 300HP RWD is plenty? If you live in Europe where efficiency is king you will want a RWD that can go further than AWD.

Personally I am stoked the Panasonic 2170 in my Q1 24' Fremont White RWD has ~80kwh capacity instead of 60kwh and I can charge up without much battery degradation. Down side is an AWD Austin LR Stealth Grey only costs $1,000 more. OMG

Also comes with LFP, meaning can be charged to 100% unlike other Teslas that you have to charge 80%. Have 2022 Model Y LR, claims to have 330 mile range but at 80% only is about 265 miles. Also have a 2023 Model 3 RWD with LFP, 100% range is 265! Honestly, RWD is the best value Tesla EV.
